The Nigeria military outfit, Joint Task Force (JTF), claims it has
recovered over 5000 rounds of ammunition and some arms from a suspected
Boko Haram storage in Damaturu, Yobe State.
The recovery followed a cordon and search operation, according to Lt. Eli Lazarus, JTF’s spokesman, in a statement.
The statement said: “At about 9am Mon 26 Nov 2012, men of the Joint
Task Force (JTF) on cordon and search operation in Kandahar area of
Damaturu the Yobe State Capital recovered five thousand two hundred and
seven (5,207) rounds of ammunition, one (1) rifle, two (2) pistols,
three (3) grenades and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from a
suspected Boko Haram Terrorists arm store.”
He added that the recovered items were concealed in plastic jerry
cans and buried in the ground, and reiterated the JTF appeal to
residents to report any strange or suspicious person(s) in their
vicinity for further action.
“Also, residents that have knowledge of any hidden arms and
ammunition should report to security agents for further action. Any
useful information would be rewarded accordingly."
