T. B. Joshua: Hard times may test me, but cannot destroy me

The founder of The Synagogue Church of all Nations, Temitope Joshua (popularly known as T.B. Joshua), has described the recent incident in his church as a hard time that cannot destroy him.

Writing on the church’s official Facebook page, Tuesday,  Mr. Joshua said hard times should be counted as joy. “It is through hard times that you gain the necessary experience and maturity to handle whatever responsibility given you,” Mr. Joshua said.

“We are most likely to go astray from God and forget him when things are easy with us in the world because we often become proud and stupid with wealth and pleasure. “God visits His people with hard times that they may learn His way. His ways, though hard to the ungodly men, are desirable and profitable because they lead us to safety unto eternal life,”

President Jonathan appeals to teachers to shelve plans for an industrial action, says Nigeria is Ebola free

President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to teachers to shelve any plan for an industrial action over Ebola scare, as he sought to dispel concerns on the status of the deadly virus in Nigeria.

The president said Nigeria has contained the virus, and that the government’s alertness would ensure no Nigerian contracts the virus if Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American who brought Ebola to Nigeria, had arrived the country today.

“Presently there is no case of Ebola in Nigeria, nobody in Nigeria has Ebola now. All the people that had the symptoms of Ebola have recovered. Out of 19, we lost seven and the others have recovered. Yes, there are a few people we are observing,” he said.

Nigerian teachers to skip 2014 World Teachers’ Day celebration

The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, has said its members will not celebrate this year’s World Teachers’ Day which comes up on October 5th.

The day is marked every year to celebrate teachers and the teaching profession.

The NUT president said that the decision came in the face of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Nigeria.

NUT reject Sept 22 resumption date, give conditions

The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, has said that its members would only resume on the government’s preferred date of September 22, if teachers are properly trained on Ebola prevention measures which actually makes sense to me.

The NUT said its members prefer an extended resumption date, preferably the initial October 13, to be sure the deadly virus poses no risk in schools. But where the government insists on September 22, teachers will only return to work if they receive sufficient training about Ebola, the union said.

This was stated by the President of the NUT, Alogba Olukoya, on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Abuja. Mr. Olukoya said if the September 22 resumption date stands, he would direct teachers to resume after they were sufficiently trained on safety measures to prevent the spread of the disease and schools were provided with the necessary preventive and protective gadgets.

Ebola: WHO tells Nigeria and Other affected countries to use survivors’ blood to treat patients

The World Health Organization, WHO, has given countries hit by Ebola outbreak the go-ahead to use the blood of Ebola survivors in combating the highly infectious and deadly virus.

There is no cure for Ebola, and the virus has killed more than 2,000 people in the latest outbreak in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. Hundreds have also recovered from the virus. Medical experts say survivors develop antibodies of the virus in their blood, capable of providing a fair degree of immunity from further infection.

Vaccines for the virus could be available for use on the frontline by November, the world health body said. But as the world’s seeks desperate ways of containing the spread, WHO said Friday that the affected countries should use the blood of patients who recover from the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in treating other patients.

The imminent breakup of their marriage may be the least of the problems popular mega-church pastor, Chris Oyakhilome, and his wife, Anita, are facing at the moment as the United Kingdom agency is investigating the UK branch of their church, Christ Embassy, over controversial payments.

The United Kingdom Charity Commission has launched a probe into the transfer of at least N941 million (£3.6 million) by the church to overseas entities between 2008 and 2012. In a statement on Wednesday, the Charity Commission said it has opened a statutory inquiry to investigate Christ Embassy over “a number of serious concerns relating to the use of charitable funds, in particular large connected party payments and the potential misapplication of grant funding.”

According to the Charity Commission, which is the regulator of charities in England and Wales, statutory inquiries are only opened to investigate “the most serious” regulatory breaches.
