British mums spend £171 million a year trying to like the Kardashians

According to a new research, celebrity-obsessed British mums are spending as much as £171 million a year to look like the Kardashians and other celebrity couples.

A new study from a parenting site Netmums reveals that nine out of ten mums say they are influenced by star parents with 91 per cent believing the impact of celebs on normal families is growing fast. A third of mums who were quizzed admitted they had bought items endorsed by a celebrity mother, spending an average of £73.39 each year.

The parenting website found that the most popular items include children's clothing ranges designed by celebrities (purchased by 28 per cent) star’s post-pregnancy workout DVDs and celeb parenting guides which were snapped up by one in 20 mums, along with one in 33 who even bought a pram or buggy used by a famous mum.


A further 19 per cent of mums confessed to styling their children like a celebrity's child.

One in 12 claimed to have bought an outfit for their son or daughter which they had seen a star’s child wear, seven per cent had copied a celebrity maternity outfits while one in 50 even chose matching outfits in a bid to copy the trend started by Kim Kardashian and daughter North West.

But the race to copy the celebrity parents lifestyle has had a severe impact, with seven per cent of all mums claiming they have been left feeling ‘inadequate’ trying to keep up with star mothers.

An overwhelming majority of mums polled also slammed celeb parents for setting unrealistically high standards that normal mothers cannot match - but covering up how they achieved their dream lifestyle.
