Genevieve Nnaji might have had the opportunity to meet and work with
some of Hollywood’s finest including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dominic Cooper,
Anika Noni Rose and Thandie Newton but
new reports claim that her minor role will not make it to the big
screen of the adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel “Half of a
Yellow Sun.”
According to reports Nnaji’s role has been cut out from the finished
film. It is believed Nnaji’s minor role was quite insignificant because
her character wasn’t important to the story and was dragging the
storyline unnecessarily. Another report says Nnaji who played the role
of Ms. Adebayo, a professor who develops a flirtatious relationship with
her colleague Mr Odenigbo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor may still appear
in a scene or two.
It wasn’t just Nnaji’s scenes that were cut from the movie, a few
other characters from the book didn’t appear in the movie because it was
impossible to tell everyone’s story.
Half of a Yellow Sun features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dominic Cooper, Anika
Noni Rose, and Thandie Newton. Produced by Andrea Calderwood and
directed by Biyi Bandele. The book centers on the Nigerian civil war and
was published in 2006.
I just hope this isn't true.
